14 best tips to clean your house like never before

You don’t have to struggle any longer to get your pots, pans, linen, appliances, and pretty much everything in between cleaned. Here are some awesome tips to help you get rid of dust and grime quickly and effectively!

Cleaning tips for the kitchen

Glasses. To make them transparent and sparkly again soak cloudy stemware in white vinegar for five minutes, rinse and wipe with a microfibre cloth.

Aluminium pots and pans. These bad boys thrive in an acidic environment! Literally. So fill them with water, add a generous tablespoon of lemon juice and let simmer for a while for some seriously shiny results.

Coffee machine. To remove caked-on minerals inside the machine, fill the reservoir with half vinegar and half water and let it brew. Leave the mixture for 30 minutes in the coffee pot (if you have one in yours). Rinse by brewing clean water afterwards.

Cutting board. Cut a lemon in half and use one half to wipe the cutting board to remove food stains and smells. Sprinkling it with baking soda or salt first will improve the final result!

Silver cutlery. Are your favourite spoons and forks becoming a bit dull? Rub them with a little toothpaste, rinse and dry with a clean cloth. The sparkle is back!

Microwave. To easily get rid of caked-on grime, heat a cup of water with several tablespoons of baking soda and a chopped-up lemon on high. Leave the bowl inside for five minutes, then wipe the inside.

Cleaning tips for the bathroom

Shower head. An irreplaceable mixture of half white vinegar and half water comes in handy in the bathroom as well. To clean your shower, pour the mixture into a plastic bag, tie the bag around the shower head (make sure the holes are soaked) and secure the whole construction with a twist tie. Remove after an hour and wipe away any remaining dirt – enjoy the cleanest shower head you’ve ever had!

Shower curtains. Let’s be honest, we never take enough care of these! But it’s actually easy as. Throw your plastic or vinyl curtains in the washing machine with a little detergent. A couple of towels will add that much needed extra cleaning agitation! Hang curtains to dry and voila – no more mouldy spots!

Fuzzy towels. If you’ve got hard water the minerals in it can make your towels a wee bit too scratchy. To soften them, wash the towels in the hottest water possible and add a cup of ammonia.

Drain. If your drain is starting to clog up pour half a cup of baking soda down it, followed by half a cup of vinegar. Cover with a wet cloth, wait for five minutes and flush with hot water.

Cleaning the house

Phone. Your cell phone cover actually carries more germs than the toilet seat, eek! A quick wipe with a paper towel soaked in alcohol will be enough to get rid of those nasty bugs. And while you’re at it, do the same with your TV remote controller and computer mouse.

Purse. It’s amazing how we never get round to cleaning the things we touch the most! To throw in a few more disgusting facts, most women’s bags have fecal bacteria on them! So give them a good clean with a disinfectant wipe before their next use.

Sneakers. Gym sneakers and gym bags can get really smelly. Sprinkle some baking soda inside to deodorise and simply tap it out before using again.

Garbage bin. This one is also not the best aromatherapy out there! Run a few lemon rinds through the bin and rinse with cold water to get rid of any smells.
