Tell us how you got into podcasts
After starting Ace the Gram we kept meeting people who had used Instagram in different, interesting and beneficial ways for their businesses. We wanted to shine a light on how they got to where they are now so that our audience could learn from them, and so we decided to launch a podcast. On the launch date we received over 500 downloads. It seems that podcasts are the ideal format for many to delve deeply into a topic.
So, what exactly are podcasts?
Podcasts are audio tracks you download from the internet, iTunes or an app on your phone. They can vary from fictional stories to long-form interviews, and are flexible and transferable to whatever your activity is. For example, you can listen to one in your car, then pause it and continue listening later when you’re working out or making dinner.
Podcasts offer a format to dive deeply into a subject of conversation. They provide education and insight into complex matters. Listening to podcasts is an excellent way to grow your business as you get the opportunity to listen to top industry experts for free. You can keep abreast of the latest techniques and experiences for your industry while learning from the mistakes and experiences of others. It’s like getting to be a fly on the wall of a conversation happening between two people who you normally wouldn’t gain access to.

Do you recommend businesses start their own podcasts?
Starting your own podcast is a lot of work but has a wealth of benefits. It’s a powerful networking tool as you create the opportunity to chat in depth with the movers and shakers in your industry. You also get the added bonus of constantly upskilling as you’re always learning from your guests. Hosting a podcast is also an amazing way to create connections with your audience as you’re showing up in a way that is uniquely personal to their day.
Is a podcast easy to set up and what do you need to start?
It’s possible for anyone to do one! It will take longer than you think, however, once it’s up and running it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do for your business.
Here are a few really important tips for beginners:
- Invest in good quality microphones
- Get recording software, such as Zencastr
- Create an eye-catching podcast cover
- Come up with a good name for your podcast
- Plan your content and updates ahead and put these into your calendar
So, podcasts would be an important addition to a business’s marketing mix?
Absolutely! The response to our podcast is different to that of any other content we put out. This could be because of the uniquely personal connection podcasts create between the podcaster and the audience. When you listen to a podcast you’re often by yourself, going about your normal day. You’re listening to someone’s voice, their thoughts, and their conversation. There are very few barriers between the podcaster and the listener.
