Adding avocado oil to your meals is certainly not as satisfying as biting into a perfectly ripe avo on toast, but this oil has so many health and taste benefits that we can’t keep ignoring it!
Avocado oil comes from the pulp of the fruit, so it’s basically an avocado concentrate packed with nutrients. Its flavour isn’t overpowering so fits incredibly well into so many recipes. Here are our favourite ways to use avocado oil:
- As a dressing. As we’ve already mentioned, its flavour is not overwhelming and it also helps to lower cholesterol levels, so it’s absolutely perfect for salads!
- For searing or frying. Avo oil has a high smoke point, so your food doesn’t get burned or stuck to the pan.
- In baking. Did you know you can easily swap butter for avocado oil in any baking recipe? It won’t change the flavour of your cake or muffins but will certainly make them healthier and less fatty.
- As an exfoliator. Mix 1 tablespoon of oil, half a mashed avo and 1 teaspoon of coconut palm sugar for a perfect natural exfoliator. You can even leave it on your face as a mask for 10-15 minutes and wipe off with a warm cloth. You’ll love the results! Avocado oil is super hydrating and anti-inflammatory and it also helps to brighten the skin tone.
- As a conditioner. Famous actress Lupita Nyong’o once shared this idea which we love. She applies avocado oil on wet hair – all the way from the roots to the ends – and leaves for a few minutes, then rinses off. This treatment nourishes hair and provides a deep conditioning effect.
- As a make up remover. A few drops on a cotton pad – and there you have it. Gentle and natural eye make up remover that doesn’t irritate sensitive skin.
- As a remedy. If you put avocado oil on cracked heels and minor cuts they’ll improve within a few days. It increases collagen production and helps the skin heal faster.
