How to transform your bedroom into a morning haven

There is a lot of advice on how to sleep better or fall asleep faster online but all beauty sleep is followed by an awakening which can sometimes be quite harsh and brutal. Surround yourself with some of these pieces that will guide you into a new day with much needed softness and peacefulness.

A glass of water with lemon

Waking up is tough. Waking up thirsty is unbearable. But having a glass of water on your nightstand means you at least don’t have to leave your warm bed straight away to satisfy your thirst. Lemon in your water will also awaken your digestive system while nourishing you with Vitamin C and antioxidants.

Thermostat

Ok, it should’ve been No.1 on the list but here goes – a thermostat will help you wake up in a warm room in winter and keep the bedroom cool in summer. Fab! Find the one with a timer and set it for half an hour before your alarm goes off instead of making it work all night long.

Diffuser

There’s nothing like a good energising essential oil to brighten up the early morning! Swap your night-time lavender for citrus, peppermint or rosemary. Rosemary helps with focus and improves the mood; citrus also improves the mood and positively affects athletic performance, while peppermint prevents fatigue. Other well-known energy-boosters are cinnamon, eucalyptus, ginger, pine and thyme.

Soft rug

Let’s face it, cold floors are never nice. But they’re pure evil when you’re still all warm and sleepy in the morning. A soft, plush rug will make a huge difference. Go for a retro shag carpet if you’re a fan of cosy classics or bright splashes of colour if you’re after a bold statement.

Sunrise alarm clock

Sick of waking up panicked and confused at the sound of your alarm clock going off in your dark bedroom? Have a look at purchasing an ultra-popular sunrise simulator! These clocks-slash-lamps mimic the natural rising of the sun, allowing your body to slowly adjust to daylight. Some of them will even allow you to programme the exact type and intensity of sunrise to wake up to.

House slippers

Something as small and cute as comfy slippers go a long way when it comes to pleasant mornings. Wrapping your feet in soft wool-covered moccasins or stylish handmade jandals instead of pottering around barefoot is a much nicer way to start the day.
