In focus: Kiwi Hemp Hearts by Hemp Farm New Zealand, Pure Minerals Eyeshadow by Bella Vi and other things we loved recently

Every two weeks we share all the stuff we’ve recently enjoyed – from the latest TV shows to must-try foods, gorgeous makeup products and the most exciting spots to visit in New Zealand.

Pure Minerals Eyeshadow by Bella Vi

A selection of Bella Vi’s pure pigment mineral eye-shadow powders are a must-have in your makeup toolkit. The eyeshadows are available in almost 30 different colours – some shimmery, others in matte.

The eyeshadows glide on easily and blend well but, if you’ve already applied your foundation, we recommend you tap the brush a few times and use a tissue or cotton pad under your eye to avoid any fallout landing on your freshly done skin.

If you’re after a more intense evening look, it’s easy to build the layers up and, big plus, the eyeshadows can be used with a dab of water for a dramatic eyeliner effect. The eyeshadows are available online for only $29 each.

Australian Certified Toxic-Free, the eyeshadows are formulated with 100% safe and ethical ingredients, free from key allergens and restricted chemicals.

Bella Vi also has a wide range of quality makeup brushes which you can purchase individually or in a set.

Kiwi Hemp Hearts by Hemp Farm New Zealand

Everybody who is into health and wellbeing should know by now that hemp seeds are an exceptionally nutritious superfood. They contain Omegas 3, 6 and 9, are a source of powerful antioxidants, high in fibre and plant-based protein and are a great source of iron, calcium, B vitamins, magnesium and Vitamin E. And if that isn’t enough to get you eating these gems, hemp seed hearts contain GLA (gamma linolenic acid) which helps reduce inflammation in the body.

The hemp hearts have a nutty buttery taste and can be eaten straight from the packet or added to salads, soups, sprinkled on your breakfast cereal or, our favourites… to your smoothie of the day or bliss balls. Yummy! A tablespoon can also be added to your baking – muffins, cookies and brownies – or you can use them to make your own hemp milk.

The New Zealand grown hemp seed is processed in Tauranga by HempFarm at a purpose-built facility. Hemp hearts can be ordered online or are available from Farro Fresh and participating health food stores and pharmacies nationwide – RRP $19.95.

Coffee Kombucha by René’s Kombucha

There are approximately a million flavours of kombucha that we’ve tried and loved – seriously, just have a look at all these kombucha-inspired articles on our website – yet mixing it with coffee had never crossed our minds before. Well, thank you Anna McGregor, Coffee Lab owner, and René Archner of René’s Kombucha for the creative thinking!

Several years ago, Anna approached René who was keen to stock their Pomegranate Kombucha (another great flavour, by the way! Tastes more like a lemonade than a traditional kombucha. A great choice for those just taking the first tentative steps into the wonderful world of kombucha). Later on, an idea for a collaboration was born. They’re using two of Coffee Lab’s certified organic beans – Ethiopian single-origins Suke Quto and Limu Mecha. One 330ml bottle contains slightly more caffeine than a single shot espresso.

René’s Kombucha has full organic certification with Organic Farm NZ and its facility is nestled on 20 acres of organic pasture and old growth native bush at the Kaipara Harbour.

Find them at Farro Fresh, Moore Wilson’s, Huckleberry Farms or online.
