Some legendary cartoons like The Simpsons or South Park definitely weren’t made with the little ones in mind. Feeling like a giddy afternoon? Here are the most fun and recent animated series for grown-ups that you can stream after the kids are safely tucked in bed.
Harley Quinn
Brace yourself, ladies! This is the most hilarious, shocking and unpredictable animated TV series out there. When Harley Quinn (voiced by Kaley Cuoco) gets fed up with being Joker’s sidekick, she joins forces with sarcastic Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) to show the extremely male-dominated villain world of DC Universe what two hothead besties are capable of when there are no men to boss them around.
Star Trek: Lower Decks
This animated satire follows the crew of one of the Starfleet’s smaller, less important and constantly in need of repairs space ships. We meet its lowest-ranking officers – awkward but hard-working Brad Boimler, snarky and fiercely independent Beckett Mariner, enthusiastic newbie Tendi and Rutherford, an engineer with a cybernetic implant in his head. Together they venture into the craziest intergalactic adventures.
If patience isn’t quite your thing, maybe pencil this one for an end of the year binge. The series was only launched in August and only four episodes are available so far. New episodes are being streamed once a week.
Disenchantment
Oh my goodness, what did I just watch?! If this is the kind of emotion you’re after, tune in for Disenchantment, coz there is ridiculous and then there is Disenchantment. A whole new level.
The fantasy animated sitcom created by Matt Groening – yup, that’s the guy behind The Simpsons and Futurama, need we say more? – whisks you into the quirky medieval kingdom with its hard-drinking, cursing and irresponsible princess Bean, her little elf Elfo and her personal demon Luci, often mistaken for a talking cat. If you think you know what laughing hard is, wait till you watch the first few episodes!
