Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day

First established in 1997, National Poetry Day is a one-day countrywide poetry event extravaganza held on a Friday in late August each year. Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day is governed by the New Zealand Book Awards Trust and will be held nationwide on Friday 23 August.

Tauranga Library on Devonport Road will host the Tauranga event.

Lunchtime Poetry Jam Session – 12noon-2.30pm. No Registration Required.

Enjoy some lunchtime poetry in this open-mic jam session. From 12-1pm, hear award-winning local poet, Lee Murray, reading her work and talking about the value of poetry for helping us process certain moments in our lives. At 1pm the floor is open to anyone who wants to share their own poetry.

Readings from local poets Jenny Argante, John Baxter, Meesh and Fi Be will also be included in this fun, interactive lunchtime jam session.

This is a drop-in event, no booking required.

Poetry Workshop  3-4pm Registration Required.

Join Fi Be Sullivan, internationally experienced performance poet, in this one-hour poetry workshop where you will pick up techniques for reading in public and learn about the craft of poetry writing. Find your inner poet, free your expression and nurture your creativity.

Open to all adults 16+. Registration is required. Please bring your own pen and paper.

A Night of Poetry – 5.30-7.00pm. Registration Required.

An evening of poetry. Celebrate this literacy art form with words from Meesh, John Baxter and other talented local wordsmiths. Mix and mingle with fellow poetry lovers while listening to live music.
