The Hello Cup saved more than 200 million single-use sanitary items from landfills!

What an achievement! New Zealand-based menstrual cup brand The Hello Cup certainly has something special to celebrate in 2021 – they’ve saved more than 200 million single-use period products from landfills and waterways across the globe.

‘People are often surprised to hear that most tampons and pads take at least 500 years to break down due to the fact they contain micro plastics,’ says co-founder of the brand and  journalist Robyn McLean.

The first tampon ever used is still somewhere on our planet trying to disintegrate, which is pretty horrific to me. We can do better.

‘Each Hello Cup is the equivalent of over 2,000 tampons or pads,’ adds Robyn.

The brand’s next goal is to save 1 billion single-use period products from landfill by 2025. ‘For a young company, it’s very cool to have stockists and customers all of the world. Our brand awareness internationally is really high which is pretty awesome for a small Kiwi start-up,’ says another co-founder and nurse Mary Bond.

International retailers of the brand include Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters. From March this year, Hello Cups will also be stocked in Countdown supermarkets nationwide.
