Normally inaccessible to the public, Gibbs Farm is hosting a Child Cancer Foundation event on Friday, 20 November, and invites you to explore all the incredible open-air sculptures and help support families whose lives are impacted by childhood cancer.
Overlooking the immense Kaipara Harbour, Gibbs Farm features works by Neil Dawson (the famous ‘Horizons’ – one of the few seen from the outside of the park), Len Lye, Graham Bennett, Chris Booth, Daniel Buren, Bill Culbert,, Marijke de Goey, Andy Goldsworthy, Ralph Hotere, Anish Kapoor, Sol LeWitt, Russell Moses, Peter Nicholls, Eric Orr, Tony Oursler, George Rickey, Peter Roche, Richard Serra, Kenneth Snelson, Richard Thompson, Leon van den Eijkel and Zhan Wang.
A gentle 7km walk will allow you to see them all, while also making friends with giraffes, zebras and other exotic animals. You’ll notice how each artist had to work with the gravitational pull that is exerted on everything as the mountains roll into hills and slide into gullies and slope down towards the wide flat expanse of the Kaipara harbour.
