Dee Collins: With all the hand washing that’s going on and application of sanitising gels, it’s no wonder that the skin on our hands is getting so dry.
The 50g tube of hand balm that Dermal Therapy has brought out certainly gives rapid relief to dry hands. Developed in conjunction with dermatologists, the cream also calms irritated and itchy skin while protecting your hands from all the things that can damage your skin. A little goes a long way so you only need a small amount. It’s quickly absorbed but I tend to wait a while for it to completely soak in so I don’t leave any greasy marks on things. I would really recommend using it just before bedtime too.
The formula contains 10% urea, lanolin, Shea butter and Vitamin E which are a great combination to get quick results. It has a slight smell – not unpleasant and not overpowering. The balm is also great to use on your elbows and heels.
This is a great product to use short-term. As it does contain liquid paraffin, a petroleum derivative, I wouldn’t personally use it long-term.
The Dermal Therapy Lip Balm is another fast acting, hydrating product from Dermal Therapy™ that softens really dry and chapped lips.
The balm comes in an easy-to-apply tube and you don’t need a lot to get results. It does have menthol in the formula and this gives a slightly tingly feeling. It also contains camphor and clove oil which alleviate soreness and discomfort. The balm leaves your lips with a slightly glossed look but it doesn’t feel sticky and it really does give quick results.
Again, I would only use this short-term because of the liquid petroleum and other ‘not-loved-by-me’ products.
Kseniia Spodyneiko: Remember those terrifying stories about Korean foot masks that have your skin peeling off all the way to the bone? The images that were plastered all over social media are forever burned into my retinas. No wonder the curiosity to experiment with these kinds of products died in me many years ago.
I apologise for this graphic intro but it was important to give you a better understanding of the level of horror rushing through me when I was unpacking the Dermal Therapy Exfoliating Foot Mask! We all battle our own demons, don’t we? Mine just happen to be foot skin-eating ones. Thank Goodness for the free Skin Lotion included in each pack. I could postpone slipping on the Socks of Death for another few minutes under the false pretence of thoroughly studying the cute little bottle. Mind you, it was cute indeed!
Two cellophane ‘socks’ big enough for an elephant are filled with the special exfoliation formula using both urea and acids, as well as six skin conditioning agents that calm freshly exfoliated skin. I spent an hour with my legs propped up on the coffee table and wrapped in the jell-o-like substance and was surprised to notice the substance had at some stage disappeared entirely! Imagine a full glass of liquid being absorbed into your skin… Yeah, weird.
After a few days of anxiety, I noticed a mild peeling on my heels and toes. It was nothing like the images that caused my childhood trauma. I would say, it was completely normal. Normal and – most importantly – painless. After the skin peeled off, I was the proud owner of two soft baby feet with perfect skin! Trust me, no one was more surprised than me to say that but I’ll definitely be doing this treatment again!
I also absolutely loved the Dermal Therapy Lip Balm. Created for severely dry skin, it was exactly what my abused lips, decorated with colourful sores from a nasty habit of absently munching on them, needed. Even after only one day of repetitive application, I could already see the improvements – my lips looked well moisturised and much healthier. Three days later, my lips were good as new. Now I’m rapidly developing a new nasty habit of touching them with my fingers all the time. What can I say, this smooth texture is irresistable!
