5 Ways To Reinvent the Way You Wear Denim

Is denim the ultimate wardrobe staple? Absolutely! The love for denim is still strong after many decades in the style spotlight. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t feel like changing things up now and then. If you’re looking for new ways to wear your denim or some different styles to invest in, here are some ideas worth considering.

Rework your all-time favourites

Looking to minimise your environmental impact or on a budget? The good news is that you may already have everything you need to completely reinvent the denim you already own. Often, you just need an hour or two and a mirror to create several new looks.

Start with footwear. If you usually wear denim with trainers, why not play with a chunky boot or slinky heel? There are absolutely no rules when it comes to shoes. All styles look great with denim.

Belts are also a low-key way to rework denim. A great belt can individualise a pair of jeans, or you can cinch in a shirt or dress to create a completely new shape.

You could also add colour and texture with headwear and scarves, or bold jewelry like bangles, hoop earrings, and stunning engagement rings by GS Diamonds.

Opt for top to toe one-piece denim

Jeans and jackets are everyone’s favourite denim pieces. But, there’s no need to limit your denim to these two mainstays. For a strong look that also oozes wearability all year round, think about one-piece denim such as jumpsuits or dresses.

Jumpsuits and overalls are perfect for dressed-down weekends. Wear them with trainers and accessorise with colourful jewelry or headwear for a relaxed vibe. That said, for a night out, jumpsuits can also look incredible when paired with heels and metallic pieces that catch the last of the evening sun.

Denim dresses are just as versatile and are perfect for seeing you through changing seasons. Midi shirt dresses have a classic utilitarian appeal and you can accessorize them with absolutely anything, from pumps and trainers to strappy heels, depending on the occasion.

For an up-to-date look, try an oversized silhouette. Robe-like African streetwear denim dresses are abaya-inspired. These lightweight dresses are easy-fitting and comfortable with wide sleeves and soft denim for freedom of movement. If cinched in at the waist, they create a flattering hourglass shape.

Long fluid maxi dresses are equally beautiful. Look out for stylish finishing touches to make your outfit stand out. These could be asymmetric fastenings, a butterfly or puff sleeve, or tailored collars and cuffs.

Switch out jean styles

With so many style options, you will always have room in your closet for more jeans. Although, take note: Never throw jeans out. You can be sure that you’ll fall back in love with different shapes and styles time and time again over the decades. Even your most tired or ripped denim jeans can still work hard for you in years to come.

Fancy a change?

If you’re wearing skinny or bootcut jeans right now, why not seek ‌some high-waisted, oversized barrel-legged jeans? If you’re worried about looking swamped, try a pair cropped at the ankle and pare down your top half to a simple bodycon or t-shirt. This will help you show off some amazing shoes or accessories, too.

Play with unique shades

Who says denim needs to be one colour only?

Look out for washed denim that has taken on truly unique patterns‌. ‘Marbling’ occurs through a special acid washing that removes colour, so you’re guaranteed that no two pieces will look the same. Marbled denim creates impactful pieces that will get noticed every time you leave home. Shirts, dresses, capes and coats all look incredible in acid-washed denim.

If marbling isn’t your thing, then you can still enjoy playing with different shades of denim. Go for a much darker or lighter wash than usual next time you look to buy denim. Or pair the two for a double denim look with a difference.

Look for playful detailing

Denim need never be boring. Switching up accessories is an easy way to reinvent your denim. However, there are lots of ready-to-wear options for denim with a difference. Many designers are putting their own spin on jeans and jackets and more.

Examples include marrying denim with other fabrics. Colourful fabrics from African tribal clothing really pop when combined with denim. Other designers use embroidery or a variety of printing methods to breathe life into plain denim.

With these five tips in mind, go out and play with the denim you already have, and look for new twists on old favorites to invest in. With denim styles constantly being reinvented by talented designers and fashionistas‌, you can carry on enjoying denim for a long time‌.
