8 ways to make your home look better without spending any money

Not everything needs to be expensive! If you want to spruce up your interior a little but don’t want to buy anything new, here are some awesome ideas.

Declutter

There is nothing like a thorough cleaning to make your home look brand new and shiny! That coffee table in the living room will look so much better with no old mail and receipts scattered on it. Replace these with some fresh flowers or a gorgeous candle. Here are some decluttering tips in case you don’t know where to start.

Create accents from the things you already own

Your lemon tree being a bit too generous this year? Put some lemons into a huge bowl and place it on your counter top for a positive, bright accent in the kitchen. You can elevate the bowl by placing it on a couple of colourful cookbooks. Move your dracaena plant from the corner of the room to a more central location to create a focus point. You don’t need to buy new things to create beautiful accents around the house! Just re-arrange the ones you already own.

Update your bookshelves

When was the last time you sorted out the mess we all like to call ‘our bookshelves’? If you want your room to look cosier and more stylish, sort them by colour and create an eye-catching rainbow of book spines. Add some candles, small vases or pretty souvenirs from your overseas travels to create depth and dimension on your shelves.

Play with the angles

Has your desk been facing the window for as long as you can remember? Move it to the wall! Angle the couch differently. And what about your dining table? Can it be turned 90 degrees? Changing the angles of the furniture is one of the quickest and easiest ways to give your room a fresh look!

Bring the outdoors inside

Collect pretty floral brunches or shells on your next outdoors walk and place them around the house to breathe in some new life to familiar interiors.

Go DIY

It doesn’t need to be a complicated project! Adding a bright ribbon to your curtains will already change the look of your room. See if you can wrap your candles in some leftover wrapping paper or sew colourful buttons to your couch cushions – update the look of familiar items to give them a new life.

Re-arrange your cushions

Speaking of cushions! Even just placing them differently on the couch will already have the desired effect but try swapping your lounge cushions for your bedroom cushions, adding more cushions where there were just a few for a cosier look or removing a couple of cushions for a crisp, minimalistic look.

Update your photos

How long have you been looking at the same photos in your photo frames? There must be many more memories you’re proud to display! Replace those photos with different ones. Whilst not an entirely free option (whoops!) if you want to display your photos and improve aesthetics, professional picture framing is a great way to kick up the look of your space.
