Tauranga Arts Festival is delighted to reveal that Alex Ellis (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou) has been appointed to the newly established role of Associate Artistic Director.
This role has been designed to develop talent and provide support to the Artistic Director, Shane Bosher, in the programming and production of the Festival.
In 2005 Alex, who was born and raised in Tauranga, formed Flaxworks Theatre Company with her partner Phil Ormsby, performed the one-woman Flaxworks shows ‘Miss Jean Batten’ and ‘Drowning in Veronica Lake’ at the 2017 and 2011 festivals respectively.
While both Alex and newly minted Artistic Director Shane Bosher live in Auckland, they will travel to Tauranga throughout the year and be based there fulltime in the lead-up to and during the October 19-29 festival.
The 2023 Tauranga Arts Festival will take place around Tauranga and Western Bay with the popular travelling venue, The Carrus Crystal Palace, this year located on the Tauranga waterfront.
Tauranga Arts Festival Trust is a non-profit organisation that brings the best of the arts from New Zealand and around the world to our community and includes free events and a schools festival aimed at nurturing young creative minds.
The full festival programme will be launched on 3 August. Tickets will go on sale then too.
