Best TV shows of 2019 to binge watch on holidays

In a year with so many great TV shows, there’s definitely a need for a follow-up to one of our most popular articles of 2019 – ‘10 best TV shows of the last few years‘. Here’s a brand new list of our top picks from this year’s premieres.

Why Women Kill (CBS All Access)

Why Women Kill is, hands down, the best TV show of 2019! The unusual plot with three parallel storylines occuring in the same house, but in different decades, an amazing cast and oh so beautiful styling, you won’t be able to peel your eyes off the screen. So just don’t! We all need a bit of visual perfection in our lives, don’t we?

Carnival Row (Amazon Prime)

You know the show is going to be special when the lead characters are played by Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne. A man we all fell in love with as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings is back to fantasy world only this time, it’s nothing like a fairy-tale created by J.R.R. Tolkien and Peter Jackson. Carnival Row is a neo-noir fantasy, beautiful and magnetic, yet poisonous and unsettling.

Chernobyl (HBO)

We’ve already written about this miniseries many times already. Chernobyl is raw, brutal and hard to watch at times. But it’s also honest and high-quality documentation of one of the world’s most dangerous nuclear disasters ever. A lot about Chernobyl was hidden from the rest of the world by the USSR government who made it look way less serious than the situation really was, but events like that shouldn’t be forgotten and Chernobyl is a great reminder of how insane the we live in really is.

The Other Two (Comedy Central)

Probably the most underrated TV show of 2019 because, seriously, when was the last time you watched something light and funny? No dark mysteries and no brutal historical background. This genre had almost disappeared from our screens! The Other Two follows the life of two siblings in their late 20s, whose younger brother, Chase, suddenly becomes a world-famous singer. ‘the other two’ have to learn to live in his shadow while also trying to get their own messy lives back on track. Funny, real and much needed, The Other Two is the perfect show to watch on holidays!

See (Apple TV+)

Handsome Jason Momoa as a leader of the tribe in a dystopian future where humankind has lost the ability to see? Give us two! Well, Apple TV+ is a little over a month old already, so there is no Season 2 yet but you can already enjoy the first one on any of your Apple devices (non-Apple users are welcome to join as well, of course).

Sex Education (Netflix)

This British teen-drama is so… unapologetically British! The mood, the jokes, the awkwardness. Not so much about sex – rather about social relationships, the two different worlds of the young and of grown-ups, the choices we make and have to live with afterwards. You’ll laugh and you’ll cry. Gillian Anderson absolutely kills it as a professional sex therapist (and a very embarrassing mum), so what are you still waiting for?

Watchmen (HBO)

Get ready to immerse yourself into the world of comic superheroes you’ve never seen before. No superpowers, no epic battles, no funny jokes amidst the world colliding. Watchmen is based in an alternate reality, where the US won the Vietnam war and turned the country into its newest state. What would the world look like in this case? In this reality, police wear masks to remain  and those who reveal their identities get killed. There are no mobile phones or internet. Instead, there are Nostalgia pills for people who are losing their memories (or addicted to living through the most painful moments of their life again and again), loads of racism and violence and loned people. 2019 Watchmen continues the plotline of the 2009 movie with the same name, though it’s so twisted and makes completely no sense at first, that even if you’ve never heard of the movie or Dr. Manhattan before, you won’t be any more confused than those who have.

The Morning Show (Apple TV+)

The new show with Jennifer Aniston and Reese received as many critical reviews as raving fans. We highly recommend watching it on your Christmas holidays and decide for yourself!

The Mandalorian (Disney+)

We love Baby Yoda, you love Baby Yoda, the whole world loves Baby Yoda! His pictures are all over the Internet (our is of him with a giant cup of broth) and we don’t blame you for not knowing where Baby Yoda actually comes from – that’s what memes are here for, aren’t they? But in fact, Baby Yoda appears in the most awaited Disney+ show of the year, The Mandalorian. This TV show expands the Universe of Star Wars, filling in the gaps after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order.

Dead to Me (Netflix)

Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini make a brilliant duo of the unlikeliest of besties: a grieving widow, devastated by the sudden loss of her husband, and a free-spirited, emotionally unstable, but kind and empathic mess of a woman who has quite a few secrets to hide. Black , love friendship – everything about this TV show makes you want to watch episode after episode.
