In focus: Upload, Blogilates and other things we loved

Food to enjoy, skincare to try, places to visit and things to experience – In focus is a quick round-up of everything the focus team loved recently.

Upload

With only a sad handful of new TV shows released in the past few months, Upload could’ve been complete trash but, deprived of fresh content, we would still watch it. Luckily for us, it wasn’t trash at all. In fact, it was so hilarious, smart and cute, that watching it was a pretty decent substitute for any other human interactions in a lockdown.

When Nathan suddenly dies, his consciousness is ‘uploaded’ to a virtual Paradise that looks like a luxurious hotel with all the services and entertainment one can possibly imagine. It might be a paradise, but not for Nathan who was ‘uploaded’ by his overly possessive, narcissistic, still-living girlfriend, who now controls all his in-app purchases, including the fast-food minibar in his hotel room. We must admit, Nathan is such a sweet, clueless dork (and what else could he be, when played by Robbie Amell), we can’t even blame her for wanting to keep him in this weird limbo where she can constantly video-chat with him and even visit him as an avatar.

Blogilates

Cassey Ho has honestly been keeping us alive during these long lockdown weeks. Well, maybe not quite alive, since after her short, under 15-minute workouts all the muscles in your body are literally dead, but at least active and moving. When it comes to exercises she’s very creative and no two workouts are the same, which makes the whole process so exciting and unpredictable! Blogilates videos are beautifully filmed, she’s always wearing new stylish outfits and is such an inspiration all around.

While You Were Reading, Ali Berg and Michelle Kalus

A sweet barista with tattoed arms who writes poetry? Wrap us two, please!

We’re not surprised 29-year-old Beatrix Babbage, who relocates to the other side of the country after accidentally ruining her best friend’s wedding, ended up with him (come on, it’s not even a spoiler, you knew that since about page 5, didn’t you?), we’re genuinely surprised it took her so long to figure out she’s in love with him.

All because of that second-hand novel, inscribed with notes, that Bea discovers in a book store and becomes utterly mesmerised with. She’s so obsessed with these notes, she even ventures on a wee adventure of her own to discover the author of the notes, who is… surprise, surprise (nope, not the hot barista but we won’t spoil this one for you)!
