In focus is a fortnightly online update on things that the focus team has loved. New places we have discovered, food we’ve enjoyed and events that have made us happy – here’s a glimpse into our lives from the past two weeks.
Perfect pout lipstick, Wet n Wild
We’re loving Wet n Wild’s newly-launched Perfect Pout mini-size lippies. Apart from the fact that they are vegan, paraben-, gluten-, talc- and fragrance-free, they’re easy to apply and offer a creamy lightweight formula which means your lips get an infusion of moisture.
Formulated using murumuru seed butter, sunflower, argan and macadamia seed oils, the lipsticks are the perfect size for your purse. Available in 12 vibrant shades, these very affordable lipsticks (buy direct for $3.99) tend not to feather or bleed. The darker colours do leave a bit of a stain behind but it’s easy to remove with a cleanser and it’s preferable to the cracked look that some lipsticks offer after a few hours of wear.
To give your lips that extra boost, use a Perfect Pout Lip Scrub before applying your lipstick. These come in three different flavours/scents – we tried Watermelon and loved it. Use the scrub gently and buff away any dry skin – you’ll be left with beautifully moisturised and nourished lips.
Everything Butter, Fix & Fogg
Have you tasted Everything Butter by Fix & Fogg? This is like no other peanut butter you’ve tasted before – not only is it delicious but it’s über healthy too.
This healthy, crunchy, handmade spread is jam-packed with hemp, chia, sesame, sunflower, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, peanuts and almonds. It’s low in sugar, GMO-free and there are no nasty additives. Perfect for slathering over your morning toast or adding to your favourite smoothie.
We also love the fact that Fix & Fogg donate to a number of charities and assist with community-based fundraising programmes.
Why Women Kill
Magnificent Lucy Lui doesn’t let us start missing her after the last episode of the crime-drama series Elementary was aired two weeks ago. She is already back in Why Women Kill and is looking more fierce than ever!
Why Women Kill is a new dark comedy-drama, streamed on CBS All Access, depicting the life of three different families living in the same house in New Pasadena, California, but in multiple time periods. Their lives seem perfect at first glance but it doesn’t take too long for some major skeletons in the closet to be revealed.
Lucy Lui plays a posh socialite in the 80s, partying and gossiping through her life, who suddenly finds out her third husband prefers men. Ginnifer Goodwin is a loyal housewife in the 60s who lives to please her husband. That is before she finds out he is cheating on her. Finally, gorgeous Kirby Howell-Baptiste plays a strong and confident lawyer, living in an open marriage which worked just fine until both she and her husband fall in love with the same woman. The TV show title suggests what happens next.
Not only is this show beyond funny and totally addictive, Why Women Kill is also aesthetic perfection. Each period is filmed and colour-graded differently, referencing recognisable movie styles of that particular time frame, and the transitions between decades are performed with such grace and creativity that it’s simply impossible to peel your eyes away from the screen.
