North Island’s Opus Orchestra is performing in Tauranga, Rotorua and Hamilton

Opening at Hamilton Gardens’ Arts Festival on 28 February, the Opus Orchestra will then perform the same concert in Rotorua on 6 March and Tauranga on 7 March.

The programme begins with an hour of Margaret Mahy’s magic for kids and their parents. Mahy Magic is made up of poems and stories by the beloved New Zealand writer, set to music by award-winning composer and author Philip Norman with a narrative and interactive performances by Classical soprano Georgia Jamieson Emms and Baritone Robert Tucker.

It continues with a cocktail-hour encounter Made for Opus: Composer Encounters featuring work by some of New Zealand’s foremost composers – Ross Harris, Gareth Farr and Tauranga-born Martin Lodge. Prepare your questions for the Q&A with the composers after the concert!
