This really is a topic that I feel very passionate about because no matter who you are or what you do, self-care is an ongoing journey and needs to be part of your daily life.
For most of us, it’s a hard one as finding the time to practise good self-care in our daily routine can be challenging. We often say to ourselves….
‘I can’t do that all the time, that’s not realistic.’
‘I’m not that important.’
‘I don’t have the time, I have other commitments, other demands.’
‘I have kids, I have a job.’
Self-care in a nutshell is about making YOU a priority and I bet most of you reading this are relating to what I am saying.
So what are the hurdles, beliefs and inner blockages that come up when you think about making yourself a priority? How does that look? What does that mean to you?
Surrendering to those beliefs and blockages doesn’t mean we just accept them and then it’s stagnant and they are going to stay there forever. It just means that the act of being present and acknowledging that this is where your emotional, physical and mental capacity is at the moment and from there you can come to conclusions and ask yourself:
‘What would be beneficial for me in this present moment?’
‘What act of self care can I do right now?
‘What loving action can I take towards myself?’
In my experience when doing this inner work it softens the resistance and that inner pressure to make others a priority before yourself.
Here are some easy ways you can get started with practising your daily self care:
- Start your day with something you love and that nurtures you (listening to beautiful music, an inspiring podcast, or a guided meditation, or simply sitting in stillness for a few moments)
- Plan pleasurable things into your day. What brings you pleasure, joy and fun?
- Move your body in a way that feels good. This does not have to be excessive exercise! Going for a walk, dancing, or yoga are beautiful alternatives.
- Ask yourself in the morning: What are two things that I am looking forward to today? And make sure to do them 🙂
Are you ready to surrender to whatever is going on within you so you can move forward in life with more clarity and start making YOU a priority?
