This weekend, 8-9 June, New Zealand’s finest synchronised swimmers will be competing at Baywave. Tauranga Synchro club is participating as well!
Tauranga Synchro was founded in 2007 and is now one of the largest synchronised swimming clubs in the country. And with Lara Teixeira Cianciarulo as head coach, there are no doubts in their bright future. Lara is a three-time Olympian from Brazil and also leads the national NZ Synchro team.
The club already has eleven athletes in New Zealand Synchro squads – five in the senior team, and six in the ’15 and under’ team. 27 athletes aged 8 to 21 will be representing Tauranga in the North Island Synchronised Swimming Championships. “Our athletes have been working really hard to prepare for this competition,” says Lara. “They’ve all put in a huge amount of time and effort, and I’m confident they will make Tauranga proud.”
It has been two years since Tauranga last hosted the Championships and we’re excited to see over 100 talented athletes visiting our town throughout the weekend. The Championships promise to be great entertainment for all. The best viewing times to come along and watch are:
Saturday 8 June 1pm-4.30pm
Sunday 9 June 8.30am-2.30pm
By the way, it’s a free event! So grab your friends, kids and family and come along and support our local heroes in the solo, duet and team performances!
