Electric bikes are all the rage at the moment. There’s such a huge range on the market, customers can feel a bit overwhelmed by the choice, so it makes sense to deal with a company that’s passionate about cycling and only deal in high quality, reasonably priced electric bikes. But what should you look for when buying an e-bike?
• Try before you buy. All Electrify.NZ models have a demo bike you can try so you can make an informed decision.
• E-bikes vary in weight so pick up a few and decide whether you’ll be able to lift it easily onto your bike rack or over a fence.
• What type of riding do you want the bike for? Tough ascents? Long distances? Comfort? There’s a big difference between a rear-hub- and central-hub-driven e-bike – we can explain all the jargon when you come in for a test ride.
• E-bikes range in price – they are a substantial purchase, so make sure the retailer you choose is knowledgeable and helpful and, most importantly, offers ongoing support for warranty purposes and repairs. We see so many bikes that have been bought at expos, garage sales or online that may have been cheaper at the time but haven’t lasted very long and have no follow-up customer support.
• Always ride with a helmet, and, if you’re riding at dusk, make sure you have decent lights.
