Yesterday, 10th March, show jumper Samantha Morrison and her chestnut mare Frangipanne De Toxandria took out the premier event of Land Rover Horse of the Year.
Sam scored both the fastest first round and clear jump-off. She showed a time of 50.33 seconds, which is faster than 51.83, achieved by the former two times Lady Rider of the Year Lisa Coupe.
The rider admits that being named Lady Rider of The Year was a long-term goal of hers. After the incredible start, she definitely has good chances to take the title home.
By the way, it’s only the fourth show for Frangipanne De Toxandria since a serious injury two years ago. Vets even warned she would never jump again! But she came back in even better shape than ever before. Yesterday’s triumph is already the second in a row for Frangipanne De Toxandria – she also ended up second in the Takapoto Bronze Qualifier two weeks ago.
The annual Land Rover Horse of the Year event in Hawke’s Bay is not only an equestrian but an entertainment and shopping extravaganza with loads of exciting activities happening daily from 10th to 15th March. The newest addition to this year’s schedule is ECOYA ‘Women of Inspiration’ night.
