What Tauranga cafes and restaurants are doing to keep you safe these days

Tauranga eateries have been quick to up their hygiene and safety measures in response to the coronavirus so that you can enjoy your favourite meals as usual. Here are some of the things local cafes and restaurants have implemented.

Quantum Vis Eatery

This busy spot on Cameron Road is closely monitoring the number of guests who are dining at the cafe at the same time. There is now a restriction on gatherings of 100 people or more indoors and Quantum Vis Eatery is determinaned to follow this rule. They’re also asking every guest to fill in a short guest register (won’t take over 20 seconds of your time!). With at least one case now officially registered in Tauranga, it’s important to keep track of everyone who has visited public spaces.

You can also text or call them to place your coffee or food order – perfect for those who’re following the recommendations of social distancing.

Patio Rose Cafe

These guys have TRIPLED their cleaning routines with a strong focus on sanitising customer touch points, they’re disinfecting tables and chairs multiple times a day and keeping hand wash and paper towels in their bathrooms. Every customer also has access to hospital-grade hand sanitiser. Finally, there is now increased space between the tables at Patio Rose Cafe to ensure you’re far enough from other customers.

The Nourished Eatery

The crew at this vegan paradise in Tauranga CBD are cleaning and sanitising tables and menus each time they pick them up from the tables. They no longer leave salt, pepper and sugar on the tables to minimise the risk of the virus spreading via touch points. Of course, you can still request them and they’ll be sanitised before and after you use them. Door handles, chairs, Eftpos machines and any other surface, regularly touched by customers, are sanitised every 15 minutes or each time someone touches them.

They also offer takeaway food and coffee if you prefer to enjoy it in a less crowded space.

Lady Marmelade Eatery

Lady Marmelade Eatery has come up with a very special idea! They’re offering delivery meals that you can eat the same day or freeze for the future. This Wednesday, for example, they’ll be delivering Nona’s spaghetti and meatballs (order before 12.30 on Tuesday) and on Friday they’re offering creamy chicken and mushroom pie with garlic mash and greens (order before 12.30 on Thursday). Text or call them to place your order!

They also ask all customers to clean reusable cups before giving them to the staff and to hold onto the lids. Surprised? The reason is pretty simple – that way staff won’t be touching the part of the cup that you touch with your lips and you both are safe!

Elizabeth Cafe & Larder

Tauranga’s legendary ‘city cafe’ is now accepting takeaway calls via the phone and they can even bring your order right to your car! Next week they promise to add frozen meals delivery to their services (creamy butter chicken and Mediterranean veggie fettuccini is on the menu)

Just remember, they’re not accepting cash for now – have your card or phone ready (paywave is available). And if you’re coming with your keep cup, ensure you give it to them without the lid.

Mixture

The home for the most colourful food at The Mount is in the process of organising website payment and an updated takeaway system. So far, they’re making sure proper sanitising and cleaning is done in the cafe.

Love Rosie Bakery

The friendly staff at Love Rosie ‘quarantined’ their famous animals to minimise the risk of transferring germs. They have also removed all the books, magazines and cushions from the cafe. They don’t accept cash and wipe their Eftpos regularly (Paywave activation is a work in progress for now). They also have home-made sanitiser for you to use and are spraying the tables with their special home-made natural disinfectant. They’ve removed sugar jars from tables and replaced them with sugar sticks that they’ll compost. They’re accepting reusable cups without the lids. There is chemical disinfection done at the end of each day and staff is obliged to wash their hands after each cleaning and as often as possible in between.

Pluto Juice Bar

CBD locals are now offering online deliveries to residential customers working from home and to residential businesses. But you’ll need to order before 10.30am!

They’ve also made various changes to their processes to ensure cleanliness and safety inside the cafes both in Tauranga and at The Mount.

Something & Social

Tauranga Crossing’s buzzing spot has removed some of their tables to create more room between guests. They also have an A-grade hygiene certificate from Auckland council, which means their health measures have always been the next level amazing. Nevertheless, they’ve made a decision to use stronger products for cleaning for now.

Henry & Ted

Papamoa superstars at Henry & Ted now also have frozen meals for you to pick up. Sadly, there is no delivery at this stage but they can bring your order to your car if you prefer not to go inside. Beef Rendang with braised baby carrot & rice or Spanish chicken thigh with charred courgette couscous – which one will you choose?

They have increased their cleaning and sanitation and are asking customers to bring only clean keep cups without the lids.

Clarence Tauranga

Starting this week, the fancy dining spot in CBD is offering a pick-up service! All you need to do is to call them from Wednesday to Sunday between 12pm – 8pm, place an order and drive to the restaurant to pick it up. They can bring your order along with the required payment facility right to your car!
