Perfume is more than just something you spritz before heading out the door – it’s memory, mood, and a little bit of magic. And later this month, one of New Zealand’s most intriguing fragrance houses is about to make waves in London, bringing a touch of the wild and the unexpected to the UK’s newest beauty playground.
Meet The Virtue, a small but fearless fragrance label born on New Zealand’s west coast. With names like Holy Smoke, 1987, Castro, Back Beach, and Narcosis, The Virtue doesn’t just bottle scents – it bottles stories. And now, those stories are about to be shared with the world at Boots Fragrance, the UK’s first fragrance-only boutique from beauty giant Boots.

Set to open in Broadgate Central, London, the 2,150-square-foot space will house more than 400 niche and luxury scents. Picture it: Hermès on one shelf, Guerlain on another, and –tucked in between – The Virtue, proudly holding its own. It’s a bold move for Boots and an even bolder moment for a New Zealand brand that started oceans away.

For founder and creative director Brooke Lean, the London launch feels a little surreal. “We were in Milan for a niche fragrance show when we connected with the Boots team,” she says. “Samples were sent, conversations flowed, and now here we are – our bottles are about to be lined up alongside some of the most iconic names in the world. It’s surreal.”
Boots Fragrance promises an entirely new way to shop for scent. Forget the old spray-and-walk-away counters – this boutique is built around immersive experiences, sensory discovery zones, expert fragrance profiling, and even luxury concierge gifting. It’s a destination, not just a store.
For The Virtue, it’s a chance to share its roots. Each perfume in the collection carries an air of nostalgia and place – from smoky church incense to the salt-soaked Taranaki surf. “For us, fragrance is about more than beauty – it’s about connection,” Brooke explains. “To be able to share a piece of New Zealand on a global stage is incredible.”
And with 11 more Boots Fragrance boutiques already planned across the UK, this launch is just the beginning. As millions of Londoners get ready to explore the shelves of Broadgate’s newest beauty temple, there’s every chance they’ll stumble across a little bottle from New Zealand – and walk away with a story they can wear on their skin.
The Virtue fine fragrances are available in New Zealand in 50ml Parfum $249, 15ml Parfum $89, 300g candle $149, 120g travel candle $59 and Premium Hand Rolled Charcoal Incense $65/box of 60 sticks from their website.
