What are the weird and wonderful ways Kiwis enjoy their favourite biscuits? You won’t believe it but there’s now been a study done by a global research company PureProfile on behalf of Griffin’s NZ, that answers this very question!
As it turns out, ToffeePops are the favoured biscuits of 29% Kiwis, followed closely by MallowPuffs (27.3%). Mint Treats won third-place, with 19.3% of votes, while Griffin’s Gingernuts missed out by just one point at 19.2%.
And if you thought you knew exactly how to eat ToffeePops – think again, coz the majority of New Zealanders (56.9%) apparently nibble around the bikkie first until just the caramel centre remains.
But it’s all fun and games until you learn how locals eat a Shrewsbury! 6.4% of Kiwis claim to stick their finger in the centre before eating it, while 37% eat around the bikkie first to save the jammy-centre for last.
MallowPuffs also provoke a lot of unexpected eating habits. Half of the research participants (51.8%) will eat both the marshmallow and bikkie in each bite, 18.4% choosing to indulge in the marshmallow first, while 18.6% save it for last. Women are more likely to eat their MallowPuffs in a set order (51%) compared to men (37.7%).
New Zealanders also seem to embrace their inner child, with more than a third of Kiwis having built something with their Chocolate Fingers.
Another common creative approach is to add something to your biscuit. It can be butter and jam or creating a bikkie ice cream sandwich, or adding marshmallows and even Marmite on Superwines.
