Pickle ice cream, anyone? Celebrate International Pickle Day at Burger Burger Bayfair and other eateries

While International Pickle Day is officially on Thursday, November 14, Burger Burger Bayfair will be celebrating this whole week with a number of new creative positions on the menu.

From 11 to 17 November you can try The Absolute Wurst pickle hot dog (McClure’s garlic & dill whole pickle, bratwurst sausage, mustard, tomato sauce, fried onion); Burger Burger’s very special pickle-loaded potato skins with aged cheddar, freeze-dried pickles and chipotle mayo; the Pickle Pickle Shake Shake and a very intriguing McClure’s Pickle Ice Cream created by Waikato company Duck Island Ice Cream.

Travelling around the country? Don’t worry, you can still try pickle-inspired dishes at one of over 30 Kiwi eateries, who have joined the celebrations. For example, Best Ugly Bagel is offering complimentary McClure’s pickles on any of the classic or vege bagel sandwiches nationwide, while their popular Yodi bagel is being given the double pickle treatment (topped with pastrami, habanero mustard and grilled swiss, yum!)

In Hamilton, Duck Island Ice Cream is joined by Haye’s Common (pickled Bloody Mary with pickle juice and a fried pickle), Mizzoni (cheeseburger pizza featuring McClure’s Pickles), Mr Pickles (salmon gravlax, house pickles, McClure’s x Duck Island Pickle ice cream, lemon dressing) and The Bearded Weasel (a pickle and peanut sundae with Duck Island pickle ice cream).

This year’s winner of the Great New Zealand Toastie Takeover, The Hokitika Sandwich Company, will also be offering up ‘The Pickle’, a special sandwich made with fresh ciabatta, house-made mayo, cheese, McClure’s sweet and spicy pickles, mortadella, red onion and mixed greens.
