The Thrift Shop Ball is back for its fourth fabulous year, bringing sustainable style and unapologetic self-expression to Totara Street on 9th August.
The brainchild of local creative Rachael Rozella Stanway, this much-loved event is more than just a night out – it’s a bold celebration of second hand fashion, individuality, and low-waste creativity. Attendees are invited to dress in their finest upcycled finds, thrifted showstoppers, and vintage gems, proving that fashion with a past can still make a dazzling statement.
“This is about showing what’s possible when sustainability meets imagination,” says Rachael. “You don’t need to buy new to create something extraordinary – it’s about making the most of what we already have.”
As always, The Thrift Shop Ball promises a high-energy night of music, art, and boundary-pushing style. The 2025 line-up features an eclectic mix of live acts and DJs, including Benthamism, Dolphin Therapy, Club Meds, Salty Chops, Johnny Raven, and the return of the iconic Pia’s Fashion Show.

Adding fresh talent to the mix, this year’s event is supported by a growing partnership with Toi Ohomai’s music department, where final-year students will intern across sound, tech, and event production. It’s a win-win collaboration that fosters local talent while enriching the creative energy of the show.
“We’re not just reimagining wardrobes,” Rachael adds, “we’re creating opportunities for emerging creatives to gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and contribute to something unforgettable.”

What began as a grassroots gathering has grown into one of Mount Maunganui’s most anticipated events – a testament to the power of slow fashion, community, and creative reuse. With Rozella Presents at the helm, The Thrift Shop Ball continues to challenge the norm and inspire a more sustainable way to party.

So grab your quirkiest thrift-store treasures, get creative, and walk into the night as your boldest self. This isn’t just a ball – it’s a runway for second hand splendour.
