How many of you set business goals for 2020 and three weeks in you’re already seeing signs of a drop off in your execution of these? Don’t get disheartened – perhaps it’s time to review what worked for you last year instead.
The idea is to spend an hour writing up a list of everything from the past year that brought you positive results. For example, which networking events were the most successful and brought in new contacts, friendships
The Pareto principle – also known as the 80/20 rule – states that 80% of effects come from 20% of causes. As an easy example, 80% of your revenue comes from 20% of your clients. With your list, plan the events and activities that you know are going to work for you i.e. the 20% gold. It’s also important that you are mindful of the things/people/events that didn’t work for you so that you don’t waste your time on what NOT to do. Don’t feel pressurised by obligation, guilt or FOMO.
Once you have your Golden 20%, start scheduling these events and times into your diary as soon as possible. That way, you won’t get derailed with non-essential and unimportant things that end up filling your day – and believe me, that can happen so easily.
