Wear your wrinkles with pride and don’t let your makeup double your age!
Overdoing brows. Makeup artists love to remind us that brows are ‘the frame of the face’. Well, if you don’t want your ‘frame’ to receive too much attention, choose softer pencils with less pigmentation for a more natural look. We haven’t heard of anyone looking younger with harsh cartoon-like arches!
Matching foundation to skin colour. But wait, isn’t this the most important lesson we were taught a while ago? Yes, matching foundation to your skin colour works well on young skin but, as you age, skin becomes paler. So, it’s time to ditch the rules and pick a slightly warmer tone than your natural one instead.
Relying on concealer too much. While it’s a go-to tool to mask those dark circles under your eyes, concealer also tends to soak into wrinkles, making them way more visible. Only apply it to the inner half of your under-eye (normally the darkest part) and use highlighter on the rest. You can thank us later.
Using wrong blush lines. Try to apply blush slightly higher up on your cheek apples instead of the traditional line from mouth to ear. This will help visually lift the cheeks!
Sticking to natural eye shadows. We get it, brown eye shadow looks delicate and is perfect to wear to the office but the yellow and red pigments in it can sometimes make your eyes look tired! Go for sage and jewel tones instead – start with a subtle application and, once you get used to the new look, layer on a bit more.
Skipping the eyelash curler. This certainly isn’t the greatest necessity for many but, if you’re after a fresh and youthful look, it might be the right time to get a curler! Curled lashes make eyes appear bigger and brighter, shaking off a few years.
Ignoring lip contours. The definition of the lip outline softens with age so consider adding a lip pencil to your everyday makeup routine. Applying lipstick with a special lipstick brush is a great way to define borders.
