Let’s face it, we all need a little bit of positivity in our lives right now. And binge-watching funny TV shows is a great way to cheer ourselves up while staying safe at home. Here are the funniest TV shows to watch.
The Good Place (Netflix)
It’s impossible not to love the charming Kristen Bell! Especially when she plays a spoilt, morally-corrupt woman who, certainly by some unprecedented mistake, is sent to paradise after her death. Eleanor (Kristen Bell) now needs to do her best to hide her true identity and stay in The Good Place for as long as possible. Love, laughs, angels and demons, lots of frozen yogurt and some curious quotes by world-famous philosophers – this TV show is as hilarious as it is kind and smart.
Younger (NEON)
If there is a TV show created by the guy behind Beverly Hills 90210 and Sex and the City, we’re SO watching it! Younger tells the story of an insanely good-looking 40-year-old single mother, Liza, who struggles to find a job after a 15 year break. She is a great specialist but apparently she is… too old for the modern world! So, Liza pretends she’s 26 and immediately scores a job at a publishing house. Need we even mention we all wish we looked THAT good at 40?
New Girl (Netflix)
Featuring adorable Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day, a quirky teacher who moves in with three male roommates after breaking up with her boyfriend. The four (well, five, if we include Jess’s best friend and fashion model, Cece) quickly become best friends and, sometimes, lovers which causes loads of drama and funny moments.
Modern Family (Netflix)
A visual (and endlessly funny) representation of a modern family: an old father with a young wife from Columbia (played by Sofia Vergara), his daughter raising three kids and his gay son who later adopts a Vietnamese girl with his husband. As the seasons unfold, there are more kids, more relatives and more unexpected moments happening in this crazy family. The documentary-style approach, when each member of the family also shares their side of the story with the camera, makes the whole plot even more ridiculous but also cute.
To watch Modern Family on Netflix, use VPN, as it’s only available for Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Germany, South Korea, Switzerland and Sweden at the moment.
The Other Two (Amazon Prime)
Siblings Cary and Brooke are in their late 20s and struggle to find their place in life when their 14-year-old brother suddenly becomes Justin-Bieber-kind-of famous overnight. Now Cary and Brooke need to not only deal with their own problems but also learn how to live in the shadow of a popular relative. And Gosh, do they do it in the most insane ways possible!
Jane the Virgin (Netflix)
Raised in a religious family, Jane Villanueva is determined to wait until marriage to lose her virginity. She is in a relationship with an amazing, kind and loving boyfriend, who works in the police, when she finds out she’s pregnant! All thanks to a doctor who accidentally inseminated her! And of course, the father of the child is no one else but the rich and handsome owner of the hotel where she works. Jane the Virgin is a parody on the soap operas we’ve all watched at some stage of our lives but it’s also a modern, positive and intriguing story.
Doom Patrol (DC Universe)
Traumatised and downtrodden ‘superheroes’ have been hiding in a secret house in the woods for ages, until the time comes when they need to step out and protect their world from evil forces. With literally zero experience and zero will to leave their cosy little corner, the members of the team have to find strength and courage they never knew they had to protect each other and the people around them.
Sex Education (Netflix)
A cringe-worthy teen comedy exploring all the weird, uncomfortable, often taboo sex topics through the eyes of British school kids. The main character, Otis, is being raised by a single mother who also happens to be a sex therapist (played by the terrific Gillian Anderson). Not surprisingly, despite being a shy introvert himself, Otis knows a lot about sex and relationships, so he opens an unofficial ‘sex clinic’ at school and starts earning money for giving advice to his classmates.
