Looking after the planet and living a more sustainable life is at the forefront of Kiwis’ minds, confirms the latest research conducted by GLAD.
What are the main environmental problems New Zealanders are focused on? Almost three-quarters are concerned about global warming, while 50% are concerned about food waste and the way it contributes to CO² emissions. Some also mention a waste of money as one of the reasons for their food waste concerns. On average, New Zealanders waste 8.9% of the food they buy, which amounts to around $21.39 of unnecessary food expenses each week.
86% of New Zealanders are trying to be more sustainable at home and are seeking out simple and effective ways to start making a positive impact. 50% have actively increased the amount they recycle at home, while 19% have even started recycling soft plastics.
To play its part in helping consumers #changetheoutcome and make more sustainable choices, GLAD is launching a new Glad to be Green® food care range. The range includes Glad to be Green® Compostable Bake Paper and Glad to be Green® 50% plant-based cling wrap and reseal products. Better storage can help reduce the amount of food heading to landfill. 40% of those surveyed say they create new meals out of leftovers to prevent waste and 34% are seeking out more effective storage methods to delay the onset of food decomposition.
Available at New World, PAK’n SAVE and Countdown stores.
