Hours and hours of typing can be stressful not only for our brain but also for the arms. While our fingers are hovering over the keyboard, we’re putting a lot of pressure on the carpal tunnel and tendons responsible for fingers’ flexion. If you’re experiencing numbness and tingling in your fingers or pain in your wrists, you need to take a break!
Here are a few quick and easy exercises to help you ease the pain:
For the wrists. Make a 90 degree angle with your elbows so that your palms are facing each other and your thumbs are pointing towards the ceiling. Now flex and rotate your wrists in different directions – up and down, side to side, in circles, etc. To stretch your wrists properly, you can hold each of these positions for 10-15 seconds.
For the joints. Start with your fingers straight up and slowly bend the upper two joints so that your fingertips are touching the top of your palm. From this position, roll your fingers further to form a fist. Now, lift only your fingers so that they’re forming an ‘L’ shape with your palm. From here, bend your fingers in their middle joints, so that your fingertips are touching the palm. Open your fingers back up and repeat 10 times.
For the nerves. Start with a fist turned so that you’re looking at the side of your hand. Extend your fingers, stretching them. Slightly bend your wrist back. Turn your wrist so that the palm is now facing your body. Supinate the forearm, grab your thumb and tug it lightly towards the floor to stretch the nerves. Repeat five times.
