Waipuna Hospice Annual Superhero Celebration Walk

It’s time to get your family, friends or colleagues together, find your super suits and have a fun time at the 2023 Superhero Celebration Walk. With all things superhero-themed, there’ll be fun outfits, music, and Zumba as well as a free coffee or ice cream and prizes thanks to Waipuna Hospice’s sponsors!

The celebration walk gives you the opportunity to walk in remembrance of your hero – to honour, remember and celebrate their life. This event concludes the Waipuna Hospice Superhero Challenge whereby Tauranga and WBOP residents joined forces in committing themselves to a time challenge related to key areas of work that Waipuna Hospice does in the community. From walking to rowing, an impressive 691 hours have been logged and a total of $11,916 has been raised so far.

Celebrate the superhero in your life as well as all the work the Waipuna Hospice superheroes do to support families in our community facing difficult times by heading to Coronation Park, Mount Maunganui on Saturday, March 25th.  The event opens at 9:00am and the walk begins at 10:00am. After a short 45-minute course, there’ll be spot, raffle, and best costume prizes up for grabs.

100% of funds raised from the day will directly help the ill and bereaved who are supported by the wonderful superheroes at Waipuna Hospice.

About Waipuna Hospice:

Waipuna Hospice delivers vital palliative support services, information and advocacy to help people make the most of their lives. They provide care and support not just for the physical needs, but also their emotional, spiritual and social needs. Waipuna Hospice also provides care and support to family and friends, both before and after the death of a loved one.

They expect to care for about 900 patients this year and provide support services to them and their families. The majority of their patients are cared for under our Hospice at Home service. Their Inpatient Unit provides short-term admissions for pain management, symptom control, respite care and in some cases end of life care.

Waipuna Hospice offers support services to all patients and their families including equipment loan, counselling, social work, therapeutic and lymphedema massage, respite, healthcare assistance, caregiver education and a Day Programme to which patients can come for companionship, a shared meal, entertainment or activities.

Everything they provide is at no charge to patients and their families because Waipuna believes that hospice care should be available for everyone who needs it. Whilst provided at no cost to people using hospice services it costs a lot to provide. This financial year Waipuna Hospice needs to raise $7.5 million to cover those costs. Grants, bequests, public appeals, events, merchandise and Waipuna Hospice charity shop revenue all help towards this enormous fundraising target.
