Aussie babes DB Cosmetics just added some new vegan and cruelty-free goodies to their already impressive 400+ products collection. We jumped at the opportunity to try the ‘Spice Up Your Life’ and ‘Keep It Neutral’ Eye Love It eyeshadow palettes and here’s what we had to say.
Dee Collins: ‘I’m always delighted when we’re given products from Australian cosmetic company, Designer Brands, to review. The products are effective and affordable and the fact they are certified Choose Cruelty Free and vegan means they already rate highly on my radar.
The new 12-colour Eye Love It eyeshadows come in two different palettes – Keep It Neutral and Spice Up Your Life and, get this, they have been infused with a subtle chocolate scent. I’m not sure that I should be inhaling my eyeshadow first thing in the morning but it’s certainly a unique selling point!
There’s a variety of pressed matte and shimmer shades in each palette, that can be used wet or dry, so you can opt for a fairly neutral look for work or spice things up in the evening with a smokey eye. The colours work well together and it’s easy to layer and blend. Add lashings of mascara and a Designer Brands eyebrow pomade and your eyes are ready to go.’
Kseniia Spodyneiko: ‘I must admit, I walked in circles around these beauties for quite a while. I already own Designer Brands Feel The Heat and Ice Ice Baby eyeshadow palettes and although adore every single colour, I often struggle with them – my eyelids just refuse to let shimmery textures stay in place! The new palettes also included a few shimmers and that scared me away at first.
When curiosity finally won, I quickly realised the shimmer tones in these palettes have a very different structure. They are soft, silky and, dare I even say, creamy? This wonderful texture makes them really easy to apply. In fact, you can even apply them with your finger – which is exactly what I did recently when I forgot to take makeup brushes with me on a recent trip. The shimmer is very delicate and absolutely appropriate for office makeup but, if you layer it up before a party, it will add a cool ‘disco-ball’ sparkle effect.
But let’s put me and my love-hate relationship with shimmers aside, what about the other colours? I’m a huge fan of Spice Up Your Life now. It’s turned out to be so versatile! There are quite a few bright and highly pigmented colours for that special ‘night out’ type of makeup but it’s also perfect for a neutral everyday makeup. For example, the photo below was created using just three shadows from the Spice Up Your Life palette. Surprising, isn’t it?
Craziest chocolate lover that I am, I was really excited to find out that both palettes are chocolate-scented. The process of applying makeup in the morning is my kind of meditation and, when you throw in a bit of chocolate aromatherapy to the mix, you leave home the happiest person on Earth.
I would definitely recommend both Spice Up Your Life and Keep It Neutral to all my friends – versatile, nicely scented and only $22.99 for 12 beautiful colours. What’s there to think about?’
