The Government recently allocated $4 million to help community newspapers and magazines across New Zealand manage the financial impact of COVID-19. focus is extremely grateful to be among the 331 publications to receive this grant.
“These publications play a vital role in supporting local economies and provide information and entertainment to New Zealanders from all walks of life. We are pleased to be able to support a large number and wide range of magazines and community newspapers through the publications initiative,” says Anna Butler, Pou Mataaho o Te Aka Deputy Chief Executive, Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
The initiative is a one-off grant payment that gives organisations the flexibility to decide how to best to support the continued production of their publication. Therefore, all successful applicants received the same amount of funding – $12,000.
“Community newspapers that will receive funding cover communities across the country, from Bluff to Cape Reinga, and from Auckland to the smallest rural towns. Magazines that will receive grants cover an immensely wide range of subject matter including business, lifestyle and information for diverse interest groups,” Anna Butler said.
As a free lifestyle and business magazine, focus prides itself on being an inspiring and motivating read for the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and wider Aotearoa audience. Getting through the lockdown and later COVID-19 restrictions wasn’t an easy task but with the help of our amazing readers, advertisers and this Government grant, we’re happy to continue highlighting all the amazing stories of successful women and deliver uplifting articles to our community.
