Whether your final goal is to turn your current hobby into a proper business or you’re just a multi-passionate person who enjoys being involved in several projects at once, juggling a full-time job with a part-time one is not as rare a situation as it might seem. Here’s how to be successful in all parts of your professional life without going crazy.
Take a break in between two jobs
Spacing out your two jobs is crucial if you want to stay motivated and keep giving it your best. There are enough hours in a day to go for a walk, shop for groceries or enjoy the new episode of your favourite TV show before switching to your side hustle. Giving yourself a break means you won’t lose steam half-way and will be productive and happy even after a long day at your full-time job.
Take all the time you need
When it comes to a side gig, the one thing you should always keep in mind is that it’s the results that matter, not how quickly you get there. Some tasks take more time than we could’ve anticipated, some days you’ll get distracted or will just be too wiped out to do anything at all. It’s all part of the process! Do not beat yourself up for taking the scenic route to your final destination, as long as you keep going.
Do not be afraid to ask for help
Finding someone who is equally passionate about that amazing thing you do after hours can make all the difference. You can divide tasks and get twice as much done, even if you’re both busy doing different stuff during the day! That person can be your future business partner, your assistant or just a shoulder to cry on when things get tough but at least you won’t be alone and, trust us, that helps. Bouncing around ideas and sharing the same goals with someone else is what makes those early stages so much more exciting.

Plan your downtime
As ridiculous as it sounds, planning your NOT working time is as important as planning your work hours. There is no shortage of tasks when you’re building something from scratch – no wonder you might forget to eat, shower or take your dog out. Plan your free time in advance, set up an alarm and make sure nothing business-related ruins your fun. Otherwise all you’ll get in exchange for your hard work is massive burnout.
Join a like-minded community
It can be a Facebook group, an Instagram page or even regular offline meet-ups with other side-hustlers like yourself or people involved in the same hobby/industry. Chatting to those going through the same struggles can relieve some of the stress you’re probably feeling and, who knows, you might even end up getting really useful tips and recommendations for your work in progress!
Be wise with your investments
We all know that in order to earn money, you need to spend money first. But when it comes to the early stages, make sure you’re only spending money on the things that are strictly necessary and keep careful records of all your expenses. We’re not saying we don’t believe in you but we definitely don’t want to find you in a financial crisis before your project has even had the chance to take off.
