Microdermabrasion is a life-saving procedure for dull, tired skin that stimulates collagen production, rejuvenates the skin and softens fine lines. New Zealand brand Arture offers a spa-quality Microdermabrasion Cream to use at home.
Dee Collins: According to the literature, ‘Arture is a specialist brand that uses natural ingredients to produce Medispa results’… so, of course, I was really keen to try this out whilst in lockdown. We were sent their Resurfacing Microdermabrasion Cream to review.
Arture uses natural, colourless ruby and sapphire microcrystals in their cream which help remove dead skin cells, stimulate collagen production and skin regeneration. The cream also contains natural botanicals such as aloe vera and a variety of beneficial oils and vitamins which means your skin doesn’t dry out but instead feels nourished and soft.
I used this cream as part of an evening routine because sloughing off dead cells means new skin cells are exposed underneath – so I definitely didn’t want any sun damage (if you do decide to use this in the morning, make sure you apply a good SPF before you go out). I applied a thin layer of the cream to my cleansed, damp skin – you don’t need a lot and make sure your skin isn’t too wet otherwise you will be there for ages – and gently massaged this all over my face but avoided the delicate eye area. You’re supposed to keep doing this until the cream dries but I would suggest you stop once you feel the exfoliation is enough. The idea is to gently remove all the pollutants, oil, makeup residue and grime, and clean the pores.
I then washed this off and patted my skin until dry, then followed this with the rest of my skincare.
This is a really great product but it’s something I would only use monthly or if I had a special event to go to the next day. Someone with a much younger skin would benefit from this cream, especially if they had mild acne or an oily T-Zone area.
I love the fact that this cream is fragrance-free, 100% natural, not tested on animals and made in New Zealand.
A 50g jar retails for $124.95.
Kseniia Spodyneiko: Honestly, it’s like the Universe got bored one day and couldn’t think of anything better than listening to my prayers. Because, you know, I can be quite entertaining. Even for the Universe. And it was exactly when I was thinking: ‘Please, let there be a skincare product that turns you into a long-lost sister of Miranda Kerr instantly’. And there it was. Arture Microdermabrasion Cream. Allelujah, angels singing, clouds dancing.
Anyway, hiding inside the minimalistic, half-transparent jar is what looks like a traditional, milky-white cream. But somehow as soon as you apply it, you know you’re smearing Heaven all over your face – the texture is silky but also a bit sandpaper-y. That gentle level sandpaper-y, when it hurts but also is the nicest feeling in the world. Like massaging a stiff shoulder. Or coming up with a sarcastic response to someone’s bad joke a week later – I mean, it hurts that it took you so long but you’re still a smart little queen, so you can fall asleep smiling.
Once you’re finished with the procedure, there is nothing but pure, even, perfect porcelain under your fingers. All bumps and roughness are gone. It’s that perfect scrub-slash-cleanser you’ve been looking for your entire life.
I’m not saying I’ve been hopelessly neglecting the rest of my scrubs in favour of those short but extremely efficient fortnightly dates with Microdermabrasion Cream. But I’m also not NOT saying that.
