For the first time in the history of this campaign, this year’s Dry July donations topped $1,000,000, making it the most successful Dry July ever! And Tauranga did a great job in helping to raise these funds.
8,600 Kiwis signed up to stay away from alcohol for a month to help raise money for the Look Good Feel Better organisation. Among New Zealand cities, Tauranga ended up in second place with the most sign-ups. Though we don’t know the exact number of local sign-ups, we know for sure that there were 109 participants with the 3112 postcode and 78 – with the 3110 postcode.
Tauranga also did really well in raising money. The 3112 postcode locals alone managed to raise over $10,000! The best performing town this year was Timaru – almost $16,000! That impressive sum even left behind New Zealand’s biggest cities of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
2019’s highest fundraiser, Matthew Lee, who has raised over $8,500, added, “We all know someone affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly, so giving up alcohol for a month is a small sacrifice to make a difference. I’m grateful to all those who have donated and proud to have helped make this the biggest Dry July ever.”
Dry July CEO, Brett Macdonald, said “We’re thrilled with the support we’ve received this year. To hit such an incredible milestone means we can fund even more Look Good Feel Better programmes to help people with cancer to look and feel more like their normal selves. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the ongoing dedication and fundraising of everyone that takes part in Dry July and donates.”
By the way, July might already be over but the campaign is still running! If you want to make an impact and participate in this biggest campaign ever, make your donation at dryjuly.co.nz before the end of August!
