We all know that negativity can quite literally suck the life and joy out of us, right? And I’m sure you’ve heard the famous phrase ‘misery loves company’? You will also know the feeling of happiness and positivity when you are surrounded by joyful and positive people.
Misery and happiness – two very different vibrations and experiences!
Try committing to an optimistic viewpoint whatever the circumstances and seek out people who make you feel good… people who are supportive and friendly. You’ll feel enriched and inspired when you’re around these sorts of people.
Throughout your life, you will be tried and your patience will be tested but, evidently, life never throws anything at you that you cannot handle. I say evidently because sometimes I have felt pushed to my limits… truth is, I am still here so I obviously handled those episodes in my life!
I digress!
If you want to make a substantial change happen, start with one small step and then take the next. Apply the classic question, how do you eat an elephant? Answer: take things one bite at a time. If you aren’t used to flipping the sunny side face-up, that’s okay. With practise you’ll find good things to focus on and before long, positivity will become your modus operandi for living.
If you’re serious about committing to a more positive way of thinking, take a few deliberate steps:
Step 1: Focus on the positives about yourself. Explore your most valuable traits. Even if you feel like you could do with a mindset makeover, don’t beat yourself up about this. Instead, identify areas where you shine in life and therefore are likely to maintain an upbeat demeanor, positive outlook and can-do attitude. It’s going to be your goal to carry that sunny disposition to other, more difficult situations and scenarios.
Step 2: Emulate those who embody what you want to be. It’s okay to be a copycat if the person whom you’re modeling reflects solid character and integrity in their values. We can always use more goodness in the world, so if you see someone acting and being how you’d like to be, follow their example and modify your approach so that it fits your own personal style and personality.

Step 3: Let go of all the toxic dynamics. Take note of the people around you. Realise that your negative behaviour or internal dialogue might be and sound very similar to those closest to you. Make decisions to remove or include as you feel necessary. You are the main character in your own movie – you decide who to cast and who to cut out.
Step 4: START LOVING YOU. This is one of the most important things on this list but this doesn’t mean becoming selfish where you only serve your own goals and desires. The more you choose to love and accept yourself for who and what you are the more you will embrace positive aspects about yourself and gradually these will shine out into the universe.
Step 5: Keep a positivity journal (I have created one specifically for you). The best way to train your thoughts toward optimism and productive action is to form them on paper so they become a bedside self-help source to guide us in life. Some days it will be easier than others to discover the goodness in the world. But remember that the dark clouds wash the world clean again and you can apply that mindset to the little everyday things.
