Busy days at work, kids back at school, extra summer gardening chores, not to mention the occasional Netflix binge … not surprisingly, we don’t always look our best at this time of year. Luckily, we know quite a few easy and really helpful ways to appear fresh and beautiful, even if you haven’t had enough sleep lately!
Use the correct skincare
There are a lot of emergency masks and creams on the market these days. Choose the ones that can to be applied before bed and left overnight as that is the time when your skin is hard at work and the effectiveness of any skincare products increases significantly. And, to be completely honest, we can’t think why you’d want to get out of bed 15 minutes earlier for an extra morning routine!
We really love the NIVEA Q10PlusC series, for example. The ‘Anti-Wrinkle + Energy’ cream is a powerful tool for that sensitive skin around the eyes that shows our lack of sleep first. Applying it at night means you wake up with vibrant and smoother looking skin. For a well-rested, bright and glowing face, use Q10PlusC Replenishing Pearls with Creatine and Hyaluronic Acid. Finally, Cellular Hyaluron Filler is a go-to night moisturiser for the worst-case scenario. The super-rich and silky texture replenishes the skin, reduces cell damage and minimises age spots.
By the way, you can now win all three NIVEA products on our Facebook page. Don’t miss out!

Get tanned
It’s not a secret that tanned skin looks healthier and gives the impression you’re just back from a fabulous vacation on the Mediterranean. If you prefer to avoid sunbathing but still want your skin to have that amazing bronze glow, opt for self-tanning products. Australian Bondi Sands foam is our latest fav. Its lightweight formula is enriched with aloe vera and coconut for a flawless application and perfect, streak-free results.
Master eyeliner!
Some people think that eye shadows can minimise the appearance of those dark circles around tired eyes. The truth is, excessive colour on eyelids makes the dark circles more visible! Leave your eyelids naked and use a black eyeliner instead – the perfect cat eye draws attention away from the dull colour of your skin. Another trick to make eyes look bright and sparkly is to use white eyeliner on the inner part of your lower lids.
There are a lot of other good things makeup can do. Here are 7 ways it can help make you look younger, for example.
Eat a proper dinner
There are some meals you shouldn’t eat for dinner to stay healthy but there are also some specific products that will help you look better in the morning by preventing fluid retention and swelling. Choose food rich in protein and low in sugar. Salmon with asparagus is a perfect example!
Fluff those pillows!
By raising your head with a pillow you cause blood and lymphatic outflow so, the higher your pillow is, the lesser your chances of waking up with a swollen face! If you only have a few hours to rest and don’t want to appear sleep-deprived the next day, place two pillows on top of each other.
Drink more water
To stay focused during the day, you need to stay hydrated. Drink more water – lemon or cucumber gives it a better flavour – and you’ll finish that daily to-do list in no time.
