Cultivating Intuition: Unleashing the Full Potential of Your Inner Knowing

Imagine for a moment having a loose connection on your car battery. The ability to get to where you want to go is zero. It’s the same with your intuition. Without a solid connection to your inner guidance, you will feel like you are walking around in the dark.

Every single one of us has an incredibly strong innate compass and it’s our job to access and use it. It doesn’t cost a single cent and it’s there for us 24/7.

Developing your intuition takes time, practise, and patience. But, let me assure you, the investment pays big dividends.

Think about a time when you had a hunch. Maybe driving home from work you felt you should take the alternate route. Later you discover a major traffic accident would have kept you on the road for hours or worse you could have been part of it. Perhaps you had a strong feeling about your parent, gave them a call, and discovered they were unwell. This is your intuition speaking to you.

The question is: How do you develop your intuition?

Here are five ways you can cultivate a deep inner connection with yourself and your intuition:

Practise Mindfulness

When we quiet the mind, we create stillness, peace and calm. In this stillness, we develop a deeper connection with ourselves creating a greater level of self-awareness and in turn, intuition. Taking even 2-3 minutes a day to sit quietly, focus on your body, drop your shoulders, and breathe deeply can have a profound effect. The great thing is, this can be done anywhere – waiting in a carpark, at your doctor’s office, or commuting on the train. Get into the habit of grabbing a few minutes when you can. Mindfulness has been found to reduce stress, anxiety, and even depression.

Develop a Meditation Routine

In a similar fashion, meditation has a calming effect and will strengthen your connection with your inner world, and your intuition. One of the easiest ways to include meditation in your day is when you’re going off to sleep. Selecting a guided meditation designed for this purpose means that even if you do fall asleep, you are still getting the benefits – and your subconscious mind will take it all in.

Trust Your Gut

When you have an inkling something is or isn’t right, listen to it. And, follow the guidance you’re getting. This can come as a thought, a feeling, or a sensation in your body – sometimes there is no connection at all, it just is. At these times, it’s really like a deep inner knowing. The more you pay attention to these signs the stronger your intuition will become. Make a mental note or even better, write these hunches down in your journal to help you recognise and make similar connections in the future.

Listen to Your Body

Your body will always give you signs – a fluttery tummy, headache, tight shoulders, or some other physical signal is often part of intuitive connections. Think about a time when you’ve had goosebumps when you learned or read something you’ve deeply connected with. A time when you’ve felt sick to the stomach and then later discovered why. Take the time to tune into your body by doing a body scan, practising yoga, Tai chi, dancing, or simply sitting quietly noticing the sensations you feel.

Reflect and Evaluate

When you put space between what you’re doing you enhance the connection with yourself, create greater self-awareness, and deepen your intuition. During your busy life, take time to stop, pause, and reflect. This can be as simple as having a cup of tea when you get home from work, taking a wander around your garden when you feel the need for a break, or writing a few sentences in your journal each day. When you reflect and evaluate where you are, you have the opportunity to learn and then you can make adjustments.

Your intuition is powerful beyond measure. As you grow and strengthen this deep inner connection, you will notice it gathering momentum. You will see that it’s in the quiet moments that your intuition speaks to you. Capitilise on this by planning regular time slots in your calendar to check in with yourself until it becomes a habit.
